Five Tips for Improving Energy Efficiency in Your Office Space

Improve Energy Efficiency

As energy bills and other prices skyrocket, it’s important to do what’s possible to conserve energy.  This is especially true in the office space where things are typically on a much larger scale than they are in a family home.  To help you manage your office finances better, we’ve put together a list of five tips for improving energy efficiency in your office space.

Install Energy Efficient Lighting

There’s been a significant improvement in the energy efficiency of light bulbs over the past couple of decades.  LED lighting can use over 75% less energy than incandescent bulbs.  By simply upgrading your lighting systems and installing energy efficient bulbs, you can reduce your costs and significantly improve the energy efficiency in your office space.

Make The Most Of Natural Light

If you have windows in your office, opening the curtains and allowing the outdoor light in will not only reduce your dependency on artificial light, it’ll create a healthier office environment.  Studies have shown that worker productivity is increased in naturally lit workplaces.  In the wintertime, this can also reduce your dependency on heating.  If you have the ability, make the most of natural light.

Install Motion Detectors

Adding motion detectors to your lighting system will ensure that the lights are on only when necessary.  You won’t have to rely on people to manually turn the lights off when a room isn’t being used.  Motion detectors automate the situation and decrease the chances of human error and laziness.

Supplement Your Insulation

Heavily insulated buildings stay warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.  If you can supplement the insulation that your building already has, you’ll find your energy efficiency increases while your bills decrease.  The best place to start would be in the ceiling as this is where the most heat transfer will occur.

Switch Off Equipment When Not In Use

The more office equipment you have, the more likely that it’ll be running when it’s not in use.  Even when office equipment is in standby mode, it’s still using energy.  By shutting down computers and other machines at the end of the working day you can save a significant amount of money each year and vastly improve the energy efficiency of your office.

MMD Construction built us retail space on the second story of our current store space. Dino and his team built walls, cut out spaces for internal windows, ran wiring, installed lights, and put down floors. The job was done timely with minimal disruption to business and we now have a functioning business up on the second level. Thank you!

MMD is one of the best companies I have had the pleasure to work with. Highly professional from start to finish, available any time to meet or speak with you. MMD has a great team that meets deadlines and delivers. One of the things that I liked about working with them was that they were very experienced and anticipated any possible complications. They were fully transparent from the beginning of the process, so there were no surprises later.
